How to build your self-confidence. Tips that really work.
How to build your self-confidence. First of all, what actually is self confidence? It is a feeling of trust in your own abilities, qualities and judgements. It may be that you have self-confidence at one thing but maybe not so much in another. Research has shown that it is vital to health and well-being. It can help you to be more successful in your personal and professional life. Here are some tips to help you if you feel you aren’t quite as confident as you would like to be.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
Are you guilty of looking at other people on Instagram or youtube and comparing yourself? Or wondering why they have such a perfect life and you don’t. Are you comparing your career choice with that of a friend who has a higher salary? It is natural to compare yourself to others, social comparison theory says so! But that doesn’t mean it is helpful to do so. It can actually be extremely unhelpful, in fact, research has found a link between envy and how we feel about ourselves. The higher the levels of envy the worse we feel about ourselves. Top tip: try keeping a gratitude journal to focus on the good things in your life instead of looking at someone else’s.
Surround yourself with positive people.
Take care of your physical wellbeing and health.
It is hard to feel good about yourself when you are abusing your body. Whether that is by diet, lack of exercise, lack of mindfulness or awareness of what is affecting you positively or negatively. Try to incorporate exercise into your routine, ensure you are getting optimal sleep and make time for mindfulness.
